Business Book List 1.0

In March of 2021, I asked my LinkedIn network for business book recommendations. (I specifically asked for The E Myth, Traction, and Start with Why NOT be added to this list as I wanted to branch out). Here are the books that were recommended, in no specific order:

NOTE: A quick reflection on the list and a couple of helpful links for another book list & tools are below!

Non-Business specific:

  • When, by Dan Pink

  • Pre-Suasion, by Robert Cialdini

  • I Am, by Howard Flaco

  • A Brief History Of Mankind, by Yuval Noah Harari

  • Creating, by Eric Maisel

Business Specific:

  • The Pumpkin Plan, by Mike Michalowicz

  • Profit First, by Mike Michalowicz

  • Clockwork, by Mike Michalowicz

  • Never Split The Difference, by Chris Voss

  • Creativity Inc., by Amy Wallace and Edwin Catmull

  • Extreme Ownership, by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin

  • Growing Your Business, by Mark LeBlanc

  • How To Win Friends And Influence People, by Dale Carnegie

  • Bluefishing: The Art of Making Things Happen, by Steve Sims

  • Colorfull: Competitive Strategies to Attract and Retain Top Talent of Color, by Sharon Smith-Akinsanya

  • The Nine Lies About Work, by Marcus Buckingham and Ashley Goodall

  • Procrastinate on Purpose, by Rory Vaden

  • Post Corona, by Scott Galloway

  • Customers Included, by Mark Hurst

  • Made to Stick, by Chip Heath

  • Jesus: CEO Using Ancient Wisdom for Visionary Leadership, by Laurie Beth Jones

  • New to Big, by Christina Wallace and David Kidder

  • Future Good, by Trista Harris

As I reflect on this list, I am saddened by the lack of diversity as well as the fact that most female authors have a male's name beside them. I am not saying these authors are bad, or they do not deserve to be recommended! My only observation is that this list is too narrow for my liking.

I will be asking for a new list soon to specifically highlight authors who are not well represented on this list...Be watching for Book List 2.0 in the weeks to come!

  • If you are looking for a personal development book as a business owner, here is a taste of one from a recent blog I wrote.
